Mock up of planned landships |
So, finally making headway on this project. The shells and most of the add on stuff have been sitting around for a while. This week I was suddenly seized by inspiration figuring out how I would attach the turrets to the main body, and how to structure the model so that the turret would turn.
So these silver/grey parts are from a Pegasus kit, most likely a power plants kit, maybe a chemical plant kit. I had explored other options, but none of the choices worked the way I wanted.
They are almost a perfect fit for the model. The longer connector was also a near perfect fit for some washers that I have. So I trimmed off the smaller flange, glued the turret onto the assembly, then used a washer attached from underneath to secure the turret to the body of the landship.
Washer just visible through the treads |
Once I put all the pieces back together, I primed the landship black, then painted the turret and body Paynes Gray a craft paint that really does not look that gray to me. At this point I realized I had made an error in design. While the turret does indeed rotate, it scratches up the landship body, and because of the shape of the turret assembly is not a solid disk, the scratches are quite visible whenever the turret is turned. .
You can see where there are gaps in the structure |
So I disassembled everything and found a disk to use as a buffer between the turret assembly and the body of the landship. Since it was all in pieces I decided to paint the treads and underside before putting it all back together.
Back together, just needs the front grill to be attached, and some more paint!
