My take on this aspect of the table top gaming experience. Not an expert just one person trying to do what he can & trying to demonstrate that anyone can do it.

Project completed ??? (Part 2 of fur mat build)

So, the mat is done?!?
I changed the game plan part way in, and it shifted this project into overdrive.

So I have modified my plans and shifted to rattle can paint.I decided I needed to darken the fur as it was too much towards the white shade of tan. I dug into my box of spray paints and located various shades of yellow/desert, and green.

The rattle cans (and one craft paint for the trails)

No exact science to this but here are some steps:

  1. Darken the fur with German armour desert
  2. Then mixed in some desert yellow.
  3. Crusader sand to lighten the desert yellow
  4. Greenskin primer all over in patches
  5. Take turns with the already used colours to your taste over all of the mat remember to comb or brush the fur throughout this step to get deeper into the fur, and to mix/spread the paints. Be careful to minimize the amount of spray on the paths/open areas.
  6. Light sand spray over everything to tie things together, not a deep spray, more like the spray equivalent dry brushing. Even let the spray go onto the roads a bit.
  7. The Vallejo yellow as a highlight all over
  8. The craft paint over all open areas, and paths
  9. Sprayed some anti shine on the mat to try and seal the mat
This time around, with the exception of the Vallejo yellow paint, I used what paint I had on hand. However I do not want to use the more expensive paints for this type of project. When I do my next mat I will look around for some similar colours but not hobby style paints.
