They are done! Started these a couple of weeks back, but then got distracted by shinier items (Alamo and Tennessee) so they have been crowding my workspace. Not anymore! One of the large barges had been painted already, but whatever my prep work cleaning technique was, it was sorely lacking. So I stripped any primed landing craft and hand painted on some Vallejo black primer then had at it again.
Paints used were:
- (V) 943 Grey [Blue Base colour]
- (GW) Grey knights steel [Metal parts around paddle wheels]
- (V) Dip/wash [All over]
- (V) 904 Dark Blue Pale [Heavy dry brush]
- (V) 973 Light Sea Grey [Light highlights]
- (P3) Rucksack Tan [Woodwork]
- (V) Brown Wash [Woodwork]
- (Americana craft paint) Charcoal grey [railway track beds]
- (P3) Cold Steel [train tracks, cranes, guns, ramps]
- (P3) Brass Balls [Anywhere I felt like painting it]
- (GW) Sycorax Bronze [Storage tanks on the carriers]
- (GW) Nuln Oil [where ever Cold steel was used]
- (V-Game colour) 72.068 Smoky ink [Smoke stacks, brass parts]
This all seems like a lot of paint to achieve the overall blue look of these models!
