Quite some time ago I bought these nice 15mm trenches from Ironclad Miniatures. They are really very nice, very good detail, decent amount of space for the placing of based troops.
There is however one problem, while listed as 15 mm, I find them rather shallow.
Now, to be fair the figures are 15/18mm, so close to 20mm, but even so this does not convey the sense of being in cover. So, again, quite some time ago, years really, I picked up so very thin balsa wood to shore up the walls. The wood when placed in line with the existing trench walls, looks to be the same thickness as the carved walls. Now the the AQMF bug has bitten me I figured it was high time to get cracking on these.
First on were some wall height extensions then some clay.
Started like this
Then after the walls are done
Then with the clay added
At first I planned to only build the walls up on one side, but soon realized that to have the most flexibility I would need to work on both sides of the trenches. So I have created even more work for myself!
After all the clay has been added, a spray of dark brown, and some dry brushing should bring out the detail. I also have some thin 'branches' and some foliage to add, but that is for a later post.
