My take on this aspect of the table top gaming experience. Not an expert just one person trying to do what he can & trying to demonstrate that anyone can do it.

All Quiet on the Martian Front Goliath; A cheap toy converted into a new heavy vehicle for the humans

Shot of the primed Goliath beside some AQMF infantry, and troop transportIt started out life as a front end loader, complete with shovel (That had been removed by me already and stored in one of my bits boxes)

With the shovel and cab removed, it was time to dive into my collection of junk...

The turret is from a Dust tactics walker, it came with two so this was a spare. The gun was made with whatever tubing I had, that would approximate the size of the main gun mounted on the landship model.

It took a while to determine what to do about a command area. Even when I decided on what to use, the I still had to decide where to place it, high or low at the front, in the end high. The command section is actually the end cap of an Ikea track lighting set.  The main viewing port came from a set of 1/48 scale windows and doors that I have had kicking around for some time

To make it fit better I carefully bent it around the command section, secured with an elastic to try and ease it into the proper shape.

The turret base comes from GW,(not certain what it is), while the connecting bit between base and turret came from Pegasus hobbies, as is the smoke stack.

Part way into the build

The stairs cam from evergreen plastics, as did the landing. The railing is a cut down window frame, as is the door frame.

The yellow windows were once the stairs that ran up either side of the model itself. They were removed and replaced with 'armour' plating. In the end I removed these and replaced them with sponsons from my AQMF spares. The 1/2 tanks on the rear are from an HO set of tanks and pipes, and two halves of an oil tank were also used.

Also employed an HO girder kit as front support and ultimately to support the elevated side platforms.

Image showing sponsons added, and doors harvested from AQMF spares. The railings were a really deep dive into my bits box. They belonged to some long forgotten model, saved on the off chance that they might be of some use, with some work, they were. The curved support at the front was just part of the sprue that held the railings, it was not even a part.

So it has now been primed grey, and base coated Army painter Space wolves grey. I am thinking it will be for the US marines, and will be painted in a dazzle style. As far as size goes it seems to be about the right size for the official version, it is 3 1/2" by 6 1/4", and is 4" tall.

  1. Nice work! Those sponsons would definitely be needed for close-in defence!
